Help

Installation

  • Install the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime libraries first (it is a separate download)
  • Unzip erb.zip into a temporary directory
  • Run the setup.exe program.
  • You may then delete the setup files in the temporary directory.

Operation

  • Run ERB with the icon found under Start | Programs
  • If you are running the shareware version you will be prompted each time ERB starts (even in automatic and batch modes).

Interactive mode

  • [ERB options]When you run ERB with the icon or the ERB.exe file you will see the option box pictured here.
  • Buttons
    • Empty Bin
      • If there are files in the recycle bin you can click this button to empty the Recycle Bin manually.
      • If there are no files in the Recycle Bin then the button is grayed out.
    • Open Bin
      • If there are files in the Recycle Bin you can click this button to view the contents of the folder in Explorer.
      • If there are no files in the Recycle Bin then the button is grayed out.
    • Refresh
      • Click this button to check the Recycle Bin again if files have been deleted while the program is running.
      • This will update the file count and enable the Empty and Open buttons if files are found.
  • Options
    • Empty Recycle Bin at Startup
      • This option causes the program to run each time a user logs into the machine (Automatic operation).
    • Only empty once a day
      • If checked, the Recycle Bin will only be emptied when the first person logs in (or starts the machine) during the day.
      • This affects Automatic mode only.
      • If unchecked, the Recycle Bin will be emptied each time a user logs in or the machine is restarted.
    • Show progress bar
      • If checked the progress bar will appear while the Recycle Bin is being emptied.
    • Show confirmation box
      • If checked, ERB will prompt the user before emptying the Recycle Bin
    • Play sound
      • If checked, ERB will play a sound when the Recycle Bin is emptied.
  • ToolTips
    • There is no built-in help file in ERB.
    • The tool tips should appear when the mouse cursor is hovering over an option or button to remind the user what the functionality is.

Automatic mode

  • When the Empty Recycle Bin at Startup option is checked, ERB makes a registry entry that will prompt Windows to run ERB when a user logs on or the machine is restarted.
  • ERB will empty the Recycle Bin using the options selected during Interactive mode.

Batch mode

  • ERB can be used in batch mode to empty the recycle bin.
  • In the batch file use the /empty command line operator to signal that batch mode is being used (otherwise the program will start in interactive mode).
  • Use the /override command line parameter to empty the Recycle Bin without prompting, showing the progress bar, or playing a sound -- even if those options were selected in interactive mode.

Uninstall

  • Make sure to uncheck the Empty Recycle Bin at Startup option (the uninstall program does not remove this registry entry). If the shareware is expired, this is automatically removed.
  • Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove programs
  • Highlight ERB - Empty Recycle Bin
  • Click the Add/Remove button
