Objective:

I am a web professional experienced in web design, web programming, web management, usability, and standards. I have been developing web pages since the Web's infancy in 1993. I have vast experience in gathering requirements from customers, developing technical and graphical solutions, and implementing web sites large and small with an eye for detail. I have a strong customer focus and seek to find those solutions that meet the business needs, adhere to standards, and help the customer accomplish their goals on the customer's site. I program web-based applications in PHP, JSP/Java, and ColdFusion that satisfy customer requirements and are compliant with W3C standards and are 508 compliant. I excel at providing table-free layout solutions using XHTML and CSS. I develop relational database designs and alterations, and write SQL queries that can be used in applications and reports. I often write automated scripts for applications to verify correct application functionality and test boundary conditions. My goal is to develop error-free, usable web sites that meet the customer’s needs.

  • Managed the work queue and facilitating the conversation between developers and business owners.
  • Established HTML and CSS standards.
  • Provided technical expertise for the implementation of the Interwoven content management system.
  • Provided technical XHTML and CSS design for the web content management project, along with supporting JavaScript programming.

Web Developer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina - 10/2000 to 07/2007

  • Worked as the lead developer with business and technical departments while performing requested updates to Java/Struts applications. The Provider Search application delivers 9,000 search results per day and Producer Rate Quote provides 1,000 quotes per day.
  • Worked with consultants to begin work with portal and portlet technology for the Consumer Rate Quote application, which provides 3,000 quotes per day to potential new members.
  • Developed the framework that customizes 6,000 member's web site experience per day based on their line of business.
  • Developed single sign-on solutions for the Hospital Comparison Tool, Dialogue Center, and Healthwise Knowledgebase applications to provide a seamless experience for 175 members per day visiting partner web sites.
  • Lead programmer in implementing the HitBox code that provides the majority of web site statistics for internal and external web sites.
  • Developed test scripts in JMeter for all major applications. Included boundary testing, error message checking, and database checks. Tests have successfully prevented errors from creeping into development.
  • Provided monitoring on the production and development sites that has allowed me to be more responsive to problems than the corporate monitoring systems.
  • Served as the technical lead on the content management system selection team, and programmed sections of the web site in the Stellent and IBM WebSphere Content Management systems for pilot projects.
  • Wrote the interfaces for two Java internal applications (CMIDweb and CUBSweb) using JSP and XSL. These applications are used daily by customer service representatives. The Java development team began using a new process during this time that involved working with business owners to attain detailed requirements, design assistance from the usability team, and planned testing with the QA team.
  • Played a key role in the technical design and implementation of three BCBSNC.com redesigns and the Partners Health site. BCBSNC.com usage has increased 61% over the last two years, serving out 38 million pages during 12 million visits (representing ~1.7 million unique visitors) over the last year. Partners Health has served 105,000 pages during 54,000 visits over the last year.
  • Reprogrammed Blue Advantage, Short Term, and Blue Points applications to port their databases from Access and Oracle to UDB. This move allowed the company to save money on database licenses wile improving reliability.
  • Rewrote Web guidelines and primary templates used on the external site to account for current technology and trends in Web design and usability. Documented systems to assist Web developers.
  • Introduced concepts of usability and accessibility, eventually resulting in the formation of a separate team that provides user testing and interface design support.
  • Reprogrammed the external web site and provided server administration consulting to the technical team to move the web site in house.
  • Developed error handling and customer feedback systems to immediately notify web developers of errors on the site. This allowed the web development team to take a proactive approach to solving problems and serving our customers better.
  • Fixed and improved the Blue Points and Blue Advantage applications, which had originally been written by a third party programming company using Fusebox methodology. This involved working with the external web hosting company as well as internal business partners. Blue Points currently serves almost 53,000 active members, 29,000 of which signed up within the last year.
  • Member of review panels involved in recommending solutions for new software, usability testing, member services, and e-architecture initiatives.
  • Earned six "Blue All Stars" for customer service.
